Sweat Out Those Toxins!
May 2, 2016
Sweating has several health benefits; one of them is clearing the body of toxins. Our skin is our largest excretory organ, meaning it is the system in our body that provides the most excretion or elimination. Recent research suggests that supporting this process can aid the body in clearing several different toxins such as heavy metals and petrochemicals. Here is an excerpt from a recent study:
“Toxic elements were found to differing degrees in each of blood, urine, and sweat. Serum levels for most metals and metalloids were comparable with those found in other studies in the scientific literature. Many toxic elements appeared to be preferentially excreted through sweat. Presumably stored in tissues, some toxic elements readily identified in the perspiration of some participants were not found in their serum. Induced sweating appears to be a potential method for elimination of many toxic elements from the human body.” Genius, Stephen J., Detlef Birkholz, Llia Rodushkin and Sanjay Beeson. “Blood, Urine, and Sweat (BUS) Study: Monitoring and Elimination of Bioaccumulated Toxic Elements.” Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology 61.2 (2011): 344-357
It is very important to remember to replenish liquids and electrolytes when sweating! If this is not done, we can become dehydrated, which puts strain on our kidneys. Kidneys play a vital role in elimination and detoxification as well. If we sweat a lot and don’t replenish our liquids and electrolytes, we defeat the purpose of sweating to support detoxification. During this month of May, consider purchasing high quality, professional grade electrolytes high in potassium at 15% off!
